Coming from the national capital, Jyoti Dhingra was never much fortunate while growing up. “It’s a city within the city for people like us,” she says. Jyoti’s father worked as a daily worker, while her mother was a homemaker. Financial struggles were rampant in the family of five and “three meals a day is what we hoped for.” But fate was not always so kind, leaving the family at a loss often.

Growing up in an underserved community in Najafgarh, “facilities were limited” for Jyoti and her family. But her parents made sure to educate her “at all costs.” “Many advised my parents to marry me off when I became 18, but my father never agreed to it,” she recalls. She went on to become a Commerce graduate, eager to begin her career – only to find out the ruthless competition that was prevailing.

“I was the first female graduate in our family,” the 22-year-old smiles. “We thought our situation would improve when I get a respectable job,” she says, “only it was not to be.”

Jyoti completed her schooling from a local government school, and finished her graduation from a local college as well. “Communication skills were something I lacked,” she recalls, “along with new-age employability skills.” These weaknesses came to the fore during her job interviews where she received “consecutive rejections.” “I did not know what to do,” she claims, explaining that she had exhausted all possibilities to become employed.

A friend informed Jyoti about ANUDIP’S employability training and after a visit to her nearest centre she became “highly interested in the courses.” Jyoti dedicated the next few months to learning “Communicative English, Soft Skills, Tally Prime, Logical Reasoning, Analytics, Cloud Fundamentals and other subjects.” But the highlight was yet to come.

“I have finally done it!” Jyoti could not hold back her tears when she cracked an interview with one of India’s biggest e-commerce companies. She is presently working for Ajio.com as an Executive, with a respectable salary that eases her parents’ burdens.
