Dressed in a traditional Khaki suit, Rohit’s father ferries passengers throughout the day while dodging traffic in the Thiruvanyur route. This Chennai-based driver from a low and humble background took up driving an auto-rickshaw for sustaining a family of 4. “He prioritized our education in his 3-wheeler vehicle spending more than he earns to educate his children” marks Rohit, his 21 year-old son.

Born in in Kottivakkam, Rohit completed local school and college, “but more than whether to pursue higher education our family was stuck on how to continue it owing to finances.” Rohit recalls. After college, Rohit had an instant feeling of inadequacy, “hearing spiels on why I was rejected even after a college degree in every interview.” When Rohit decided to take up an advance training in Java Full Stack Development at ANUDIP with high aspiration for a software development career, “my family was left stumped frowning on my idea of chasing further training instead of earning”. Rohit had to convince his family, that “hiring isn’t always as strictly score-based as they might think it is.” Amidst all the “apprehension if this tech-training is relevant”, his biggest cheerleader has been his auto driver father who told him conversations of many of his “young office-going passengers who strived to get into giant software companies.”

However, what set Rohit apart was his distinguished quality of curiosity and learning habit. “We had 68 hours of core and 64 hours of advanced JAVA classes,” narrating his experience on how he developed his proficiencies on Web Application using React JS and Spring Technology. Post his 16 week full-time modules at ANUDIP Karapakkam Centre, the young aspirant was scheduled by the ANUDIP placement cell to appear for interviews in four large multinationals. In the midst of sweltering Chennai afternoons, his father parked his auto near the giant-like sky-scrapers waiting for his son to return from the interviews. As luck would have it, he was shortlisted by Tata Consultancy, Larsen & Toubro and Capgemini.

It was a nerve-wracking experience, to say the least, but behind the real show”, assures Rohit, “was my Faculty who rigidly focused on English speaking skills in tandem with my deep tech training.” He took up the Capgemini offer as an Analyst and will soon shift to their Bangalore branch. “With my father’s modest income that covered bills and basics, we hardly had money left to spend the way we wanted” claims Rohit. “This was the first time my parents tried this pizza when I took them out for dinner on getting my first salary.”

Traffic jams in the IT corridor are frequent, so passengers tend to feel irritated while waiting’’ marks Rohit’s father, “insisting the Capgemini employee to reach office before time. “
