Women have excelled in every field they have got into; bringing with them attributes of leadership, efficiency, innovation, and dedication in abundant measure. If earlier, women were considered for jobs belonging to the humanities or arts (read soft streams,) today, the tables have been turned. Women are helping jobs in the technology sector with equanimity. In these sectors (and others as well), they have proved beyond doubt that they are not a wee bit lesser than their male counterparts but rather, in many cases, even better. In technology, the traditional domain of men, women have slowly but steadily made inroads. Whether working indoors or outdoors, women have taken great strides in the technology sphere. The example of women scientists leading the space missions at ISRO being a case in point.

    # Women in new technology jobs: In recent years, the advent of new technologies has brought about a revolution of sorts. Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, and Blockchain, among others, are dominating the discourse and landscape of technology. To address the growing demand for expertise in these technologies, the industry is looking at candidates, especially women with exposure to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines. Since the current job scenario has fewer women in domains requiring STEM-related skills, there is a need for skill development. Further, it has been observed that companies having greater gender diversity deliver better Return of Equity (ROE) (Source: FactSet, ASSET4, Morgan Stanley Research).

To quantify with stats, the above research shows that companies with more representation of women had 1.1 percent better ROE than the ones with fewer representation. Similarly, McKinsey also corroborated the findings that companies with better gender diversity are likely to have 15 percent higher financial returns than their peers with lesser diversity. So, the bottom line is that companies with better gender diversity are associated with more customers and increased revenue and profits.

The Anudip impact: Anudip has been impacting more than 40,000 women and girls from low-income and vulnerable communities and empowered them jobs and employment exclusively in technology.

    Conclusion

Technology has been the game-changer as far as empowering people and communities is concerned. The role of women in ushering in the change is not lost on anyone. With increased participation in the workforce dealing with the technology domain, women have brought about positive changes – for businesses, entities, institutions, and governments.
