A modest and determined hill girl’s climb out of poverty to a career growth path
Swarnika Subba’s journey is a testament to the power of determination and the transformative impact of opportunities. Born in the quaint hamlet of Bloomfield Gairi Gaon in Darjeeling, financial constraints marked her upbringing, yet her dreams knew no boundaries. “I knew from a young age that I wanted more than what my circumstances could offer,” Swarnika reminisces.
Hailing from a family of four, with her father being demised at an early age and her mother working as a lady constable under West Bengal Government, Swarnika’s aspirations extended far beyond the confines of her humble beginnings. Her unwavering spirit and thirst for knowledge propelled her to pursue higher education, ultimately earning a graduate degree. “Education was my ladder to a better life,” she affirms.
During this crucial phase, Swarnika encountered the Anudip Foundation, an organisation dedicated to empowering individuals through skill development and career opportunities. “Anudip opened my eyes to the world of possibilities,” she recalls. Enrolling in the Certificate program in Content Moderation and Future Pro program at the Skill & Development Centre in Darjeeling and funded by Accenture, she immersed herself in the training. She learned invaluable skills in content analysis, quality assurance, and emerging technologies. Guided by esteemed trainers like Subroto Deb, MD or Md. Farukuzzaman and Tilottama Mukherjee, Swarnika honed her abilities to navigate the digital landscape. “I am forever indebted to Anudip for equipping me with the tools to excel,” she says.
Upon completing the course, Swarnika’s life took an extraordinary turn when she secured a position at the IT firm ‘Teleperformance’ as a Customer Care Associate, earning an impressive Rs. 35,427.00 monthly CTC. “It was a dream come true,” Swarnika beams. Her role provided her with a handsome salary and opened doors to professional growth and self-actualisation.
No longer bound by the constraints of her past, Swarnika embraced her newfound independence and contributes today to her family’s well-being. “I could finally give back to those who had supported me unconditionally,” she says with pride. With her earnings, she supported the renovation of their humble abode and alleviated the financial burdens that had once weighed heavily upon her loved ones.
