Anudip, a non-for-profit social enterprise empowering individuals through digital and workplace skills along with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), launched an innovative employability model “Train and Hire Program” two months ago to employ young people from disadvantaged scheduled caste and tribe communities (ST/SC) of West Bengal and Jharkhand into the twenty-first century economy. As a pilot project, the program stretched across the two states to collectively impact 120 disadvantaged youth from low-income family groups.

Anudip’s Train and Hire Model, aimed at promoting employment opportunities in TCS is designed to address four major barriers faced by marginalized ST/SC impoverished youth – lack of information, soft skill gaps, limited access to gainful employment and being ill-equipped with tools for success in new-age job searches. Under this programme, unemployed graduates from backward communities undergoes through 100 hours of training sessions encompassing twenty days of Anudip’s unique technology-driven training with the necessary IT, English language and ancillary skills followed by TCS’s Affirmative Action Training customized for meaningful new-economy employment in the Tata Group.

Today, over 50 talent-rich youth from the SC/ST groups of Jharkhand, on successful completion of the training, have been interviewed by the TCS Human Resource Department from who visited the Anudip Skill Development Centre near BIT Mesra, Jharkhand.  Some of the candidates have been shortlisted and would be joining the Tata Group in the coming month. As a part of the program-agenda, the next recruitment drive from the Tata Group will be conducted at Anudip Skilling Centres in West Bengal.

Sreetama Dutta, Human Resources, TCS, Kolkata said, “TCS is aligned with the framework for affirmative action which adheres to the principle of equal opportunity, whether in recruitment or career advancement, and together with Anudip’s ethos to create livelihoods, we are happy to employ and welcome deserving candidates from most unserved communities into the TCS family. ’’

“ The Train and Hire model is a major catch-up game,” notes Prasenjit Kundu, Executive Director, Anudip Foundation, “The model will serve as a strong testimony to Anudip and TCS’s collaborative efforts towards enabling at-risk communities to participate in the digital economy.”
