They called me abandoned”, Priyanga from Chennai narrates her childhood to us.

Priyanga never had an opportunity to see his father who left her mother, when she was expecting. “Amma cried every day” recalled the young girl as she grew up seeing how neighbours and the surrounding community “called me inauspicious making me responsible of my father’s deceit.”

Raised by her mother who worked as a house-help and her aunt who sold flowers at the road-side, Priyanga “had to learn to live by herself from an early age”. Financial difficulties were persistent, “but Amma made sure I had two chapattis more” smiles the 22 year-old.

“I was one of the toppers in school,” she expressed “but my mother had no money left to send me to college.” It was her aunt who did not let her drop out of education.  Completing graduation, “lady luck finally stepped in introducing me to learn employability skills like “.Net, MySql, Java, PHP, Bootstrap at ANUDIP which was beyond our affordability before.”  Getting access to domain-expert faculty “opened a new world of opportunity and hope to my otherwise helpless environment.”

My family does not understand the training I underwent,” iterated the 21 year-old yet they were convinced of the “grit I was building within myself to make the best use of the fresh skills I learnt.”  Fast forward six months. Priyanga flaunts her offer-letter in hand from Bank of America. From “abandoned” to “ill-fated” to even being treated “different”, Priyanga is currently her designated as “a Software Engineer” earning a monthly salary of INR 50,000.

“Financial stability is not just an increase in income”– confirms Priyanga assuring “how the views of the society eventually changed towards them post her career.”
