Powerhouse - DREAM Entrepreneurship Unit

Powerhouse was started by Debashis Koyal and Nilimesh Das as a desktop publishing enterprise in South Barasat, West Bengal. Debashis and Nilimesh are both graduates from Anudip’s Barasat MAST (Market Aligned Skills Training) center. After completing the IT courses and the soft-skill training, they opted to attend a special workshop on entrepreneurship development and decided to start their own business. The partners initially had trouble finding a location for their business and ultimately decided to run the business out of Debashis Koyal’s house. The amount of incoming Desktop Publishing work took off quickly, and they soon began searching for a new location to expand their business. After four months of operation they found a suitable location in a South Barasat marketplace. The young entrepreneurs opened their new location as both a desktop publishing studio and an internet café, and soon began offering a wide range of services: online e-ticket booking, electricity and telephone bill payment, typing services, scanning, printing, and development of database management software for a local life insurance company. Most recently Powerhouse opened an additional location to cater to the growing need for IT services in the Barasat area. Debashis and Nilmesh have even hired other Anudip MAST graduates from their community to help them keep up with the demand.
