Bapu Das (24) lives in Abavashikta, a community on the outskirts of Kolkata. There are four members in his family: Himself, his older brother, his sister and his father. Bapu’s father is a motor mechanic who makes Rs. 3,500 per month (about $70), and his mother passed away about 1 year ago. In September of 2010 Bapu joined Anudip’s MAST program at the KMK center south of Kolkata. “I joined MAST because I had a lot of problems facing interviews in the past. I wasn’t getting accepted to any jobs. Some of my friends took a basic course from Anudip, and they told me I could go there to learn computer and English skills. My teacher Soma ma’am is a very good person, and a very good teacher. I got two job offers after I graduated, and now I work at Firstsource BPO in Kolkata. All the money I make goes to my family. My father has done a lot for me and now I have a chance to help him. I’m proud to be making money for my family. At my age, I needed a job. MAST is a good program for me and my friends.” Bapu's job with Firstsource has more than doubled his family's income and has already had a substantial impact on his family's well being. He is like any other young Indian man; he dreams of starting a family one day and having the means to support it. When asked if he would recommend the course to his friends, he has this to say: "I don't have to go tell my friends about MAST. They see my development and my new job and they all come to me to ask me how they can do it too."
