On July 25th, 2006, the first twenty students attending a LINKAGE training class graduated at Asha Welfare Society in Namkhana. Eight women and twelve men formed this highly energetic and motivated class. The class was taught by instructors who also developed the curriculum.
Anudip managers and instructors met the outgoing class in Namkhana at an in-depth feedback session. Several major learnings resulted from the meeting and were used to modify subsequent courses and teaching methods.
The high points of the feedback session were:
- Education levels of students ranged from high school graduates to bachelors degree holders
- With a couple of exceptions none of the students had worked on a computer before
- All students felt the course was extremely beneficial in teaching them fundamentals of computer
operation and software applications
- Students strongly felt that not enough time was available for hands-on practice. As a result of this the
course was extended for these and subsequent students to include a supervised two-week practice period at the end of the two-week class
- All students felt comfortable reading and learning in English and there was no need for training
material in Bengali
- Students wanted the course to include next steps in terms of learning and working. Subsequent
courses will dwell extensively on livelihood application areas of IT
The next course at Asha Welfare Society begins on September 4th.
