On the 3rd December 2016, more than two hundred rural youth graduated from the Leap-MAST-Anudip Training Centre at Baruipur in South 24 Paraganas district of West Bengal. Launched almost a year ago in collaboration with American India Foundation and Capgemeni, this skill development centre has been offering an innovative digital learning for undergraduates/graduates from impoverished backgrounds at Baruipur and nearby locations to develop their IT and vocational abilities for the IT and IT-enable-services sector.

These students with their families and faculty gathered at the roof-top of the Baruipur Leap-MAST-Anudip centre to commemorate their graduation. To encourage the students, chief-guest Somnath Chatterjee, Centre-Head and CSR Core Committee member of Capgemini India, noted, “This graduation ceremony marks the joint-achievements of AIF, Capgemnini and Anudip in successfully empowering deserving youth and unleashing a new chapter in their lives. It would be really encouraging to harness more such young people with sustainable livelihood opportunities. ”

Sharing his views on the establishment of such a skill development centre in South 24 Paraganas, Hanumant Rawat, Senior Advisor, Livelihoods at AIF emphasized, “Such programs are set up in underserved regions to reach and shape the new generation of youth with industry aligned job skills to foster economic growth and social development of the country. It gives us immense pleasure to learn that one hundred and ninety eight out of two hundred and fifty Leap-MAST graduates from Anudip Baruipur Centre are already placed in new economy jobs.”

The event was illuminated with cultural performances by students and staff of Anudip, followed by a presentation of success stories of a few of students collected in a documentary. The celebration ended with the award of certificates and felicitation of each student amid loud applause from the audience. Dipak Basu, CEO, Anudip Foundation closed the event with , “I am proud that Anudip has reached another milestone today together with Capgemini and AIF. By creating large scale digital livelihood opportunities to youth from underserved locations, we are bridging India’s digital divide and helping in community development.’’
